I thought the article again raised serious issues of waste in the federal government--i.e, federally-funded researchers at institutes and universities looking into why candy wrappers make noise in movie theaters. And this venue isn't your personal platform for whatever topic you choose. Solution: find a home for your off-topic detritus elsewhere. If there isn't a thread devoted to debating your crucial issue of candy wrappers, then make one.

chalu, There is another waste of tax payers' money that needs addressing. There is rampant fraud in the Medicare system, all the way through any medical facility, or service connected to medical treatment of the elderly. I am involved in a situation that, I feel it is my duty to report as fraudulent to the Medicare fraud division. On a transport of my mother, 13 miles, from a hospital to the Alzheimer's facility where she lives, an ambulance company made a claim to medicare for $512.50. I checked with other companies, acting like I would need such a transport and, their first questions were if she was ambulatory and if she could ride in a wheel chair. Since she could do both of these, 4 other ambulance companies would have sent a wheel chair van, and the bill would have been about $60.00. Medicare paid these crooks over $350.00, that comes out of the taxpayer's pockets. If everyone would turn these people in, maybe some action would be taken, whoever is in the White House. ~H~

AlGore the Junior, noted slumlord to Tennessee's working poor, lashed out at a woman because she went to the media and showed the world the squalor that AlGore the Junior inflicts on those he lords over. According to his victim: Gore Tenant Claims He Called Her Again When Tracy Mayberry called NewsChannel 5 last week, she never imagined what would happen. Mayberry rents a home in Carthage from Vice President Al Gore. She said she was being evicted because she'd complained about the conditions in the home. Gore himself called her Saturday to straighten things out. Mayberry's phone hasn't stopped ringing since the story broke and not all of the callers have been polite. All Mayberry wanted was her landlord to fix her plumbing, the overflowing toilets and backed up sinks, but when your landlord is Vice President Al Gore, your plumbing problems become a national story. Mayberry's phone rang constantly over the weekend with calls from reporters asking questions about Al Gore, the man she'd initially called a slumlord. But Mayberry began to think he wasn't such a bad guy after Gore personally called her Saturday and promised to fix the problems and find her family a place to stay during the repairs. He told Mayberry he had no idea anything was wrong with the house. "It's tore me up," Mayberry said Monday. Mayberry said she received another call from Gore Monday morning. "I'm most positive it was Al Gore. No question." But Mayberry said Gore wasn't so friendly or nice this time. She said he accused her of "badmouthing him" to the national media. "He didn't have no right to call and say I badmouthed him because I didn't," she said. That was the last straw for Mayberry. She started packing and decided to send her children to her mother's house. She said she and her husband would sleep in their truck. She said she could rely on her truck, but not her landlord, the vice president. Gore aides said Gore never made the second call and that he was giving this speech at a graduation in North Carolina. Mayberry said she has gotten calls from conservative attorneys who want to help and angry Gore supporters who are upset her story received so much attention. "I'm really surprised. I wasn't expecting all this," she said. All she expected was to get her plumbing fixed. Mayberry said she still believes it was Gore who called her Monday morning. She said the voice sounded the same and he talked about things they had discussed on Saturday. Gore's staff sent someone out to her house Monday afternoon and offered to move the family to a motel, away from the media glare. Republicans have been very vocal about the issue. Over the weekend, the chairman of the Republican National Committee criticized Gore. On Monday the committee's fax machine sent out several press releases about the story. newschannel5.com
