Steven,
I also believe that everyone has a right to their own beliefs. The problem I have with a number of posters on this "feelings" thread (a misnomer if ever I saw one), is that they have demanded that I respect their right to their beliefs, while doing everything verbally possible to deny me the same right to believe as I wish.

My beliefs, and the beliefs of those around me, are not what people refer to as "fundamentalist". Fundamentalist to us is to be radical, and more aggressive, than I choose to be. The verbal aggression I have shown on this, and any other thread, has been in reaction to vicious posts sent to me without provocation. ~H~

That does not change my opinion that fundamentalist Christianity as an organized
force shows dangerously aggressive and dominant tendencies.

I could say the same about individual Muslims and fundamentalist Islam, or about
fundamentalist political ideologies.

And you could, I trust, also say the same about individual Democrats or Republicans and the Democratic or Republican parties. Environmentalists vs. the environmental movement. Etc. The psychology of mobs is not limited to traditional mobs.

Hello Steve,

I think you have to expand your view to include "do gooders" of most any stripe. Very often the do gooders tend to go over board with their zeal. Look at environmentalism for example. They feel that their "cause" should override an individual's freedom and rights to use their own property as they see fit. It is all a balancing act. Even government do gooders step on the toes of individualist ideals. Everyone pushes their own interests and many so called "do gooders" can lean too far towards tyranny in favor of that they think is best. Fundamentalist Christians are not the real threat to my freedom. I don't think they are to yours either. The "green police" that some here think we need coming and dictating what I can do with my land are a threat to my freedom. Fundie Christians can't make me behave and go to church on Sunday. But the "green police" can really mess up my life. That's just one example of where the real tyranny is today. It's in government, not the Church that tyranny is being propagated.
