I still can't believe that so many people are against self-installs. The "slow" rollout of ATHM at a clip of 350,000 per quarter simply doesn't cut it (certainly that's what Wall St. is telling us). Sure, ATHM can, perhaps, double the installs to 700,000 per quarter in a few years, but by then ATHM may have other competitors and DSL will have had a chance to get a foothold. Instead, ATHM needs to do everything in its power to grab those subs before they go elsewhere--self install is a major step in doing that.

As for those (Ahhaha, etc.) who this DSL is a waste of time to even discuss, does anyone have statistics on the retention rate of DSL subs? Better yet, how many DSL subs have migrated from DSL to @Home?

Imo, get as many subs as possible now and deal with the consequences if they arise. Lord knows that AOL's (gasp!) horrible customer support has long been forgiven. Would I rather have 1.8 million subs who are perfectly happy or 5 million subs of which 500,000 are a bit unhappy because of one thing or another? I'd rather have the later; most of the unhappy folks won't leave anyway, they'll just need some massaging (give them a few free months until their problems are fixed... hmmm, who uses that tactic).

The good news, Ahhaha, is that (at least according to you) ATHM is still "under accumulation"; it's been under accumulation since the 40s. The problem is, they're are more shares being dumped than accumulated.

I'd rather know what and make a bet on when simply because I'm patient and I know how to hold.

I don't think you understand how vital it is that @home capture customers as soon as possible. Yesterday would not be soon enough.

Do you want ATHM to be a player in broadband or do you want them to be broadband?

Kleenex or Scott Tissues?
Coke or Dr. Pepper?
AOL or Earthlink?
Cisco or 3com?

and of course the all time favorite...
...
...
IBM or Apple?

This is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity for ATHM. Whoever gets the customers is going to win the mindshare of the public.

'nuff said.
