JDN - correct on the LX300 - although it is built on the RS300 chassis which may be the same as the Camrey for all I know. It is more of a 4WD car than an SUV, but it is a pretty nice package if you just want the extra traction for occasional snow or some minor off-road.

We get that as a loaner when we take our LX470 in for service, and my wife likes the fact that it is small, easy to drive and park...

The LX470 is really a Land Cruiser with a lot of luxury appointments, but it is a serious off-road vehicle. Big suspension, great clearance and balance, lots of power, and the ability to raise or lower the vehicle by 6 inches is handy when the going gets tough. Looking at the beef in the undercarriage compared to the Jeep, everything is just bigger and tougher. But it is also a lot heavier than the Jeep and makes no claim to be economical.

OT: SUVs

It never ceases to amaze me how popular SUVs are here in South Florida. My guess is that they constitute as much as 20% of the vehicles on the road here. No doubt folks wanting to make sure they can get through those mountain passes during a sudden blizzard. :)

OT... Ok I need to get just one more post in on the SUV thingy...sorry thread!!!

The Lexus is not based on the friggen Camry chassis. It was early misinformation.

Contrary to early speculation, the RX 300 is based on a unique floorpanand key chassis components not shared with other Lexus or Toyota products. Of unibody construction, the RX structure provides high torsional and bending rigidity, without need for the extra weight and bulk of separate body-on-frame construction employed by most SUVs. As a result, the RX 300 curb weight is lighter than many competitors for better performance and fuel economy.

theautochannel.com

carprices.com This link says bits come from the lexus ES300 sedan, but the RX-300 is built on a unique and totally new platform.

Also... It isn't my intention to ever take this thing of road, just like 90% of all SUV owners never do. I got a two wheel drive model for the better fuel mileage (think environment) and the fact that it won't go offroad anyway.. JGC is a fine auto but not what I was after. The ride in The RX- 300 is very smooth, unlike most SUVs..

Ok enough of that...

Cheers
