Maui, Re: My language is : It is better to get a B in 5 courses, than taking only 1 course and getting an A.

That is what I meant but just the opposite to your preference. I would rather have 1 course and getting an A and starting from there to 2 courses and getting an A and B than jumping from 1 A to 5 B.

I disagree. Perhaps it's the perfectionist Asian blood in me, but five B's isn't much of an accomplishment in my opinion. I feel better with just one A than with with five B's and no A's.

What does this say about Intel? Well, why ask me? I'm just a lowly peon. :-

Maui,

You seem to be saying, correct me if I'm wrong, that you are willing to sacrifice leadership in microprocessors (IAG) to focus on the other 4 business groups.

I'll tell you what I know about the new groups. Combined, the wireless, network communications, communications products, and new business groups had about 16% of Intel's total revenue in the 3rd quarter. They lost about $850 million. Intel's guidance is that revenue from the 4 groups will grow about 50% in 2000, including new acquisitions. That's about it as far as information (that I know) goes.

So you may be building "A" level businesses within these groups, but I'm not sure, as a shareholder, how you make that evaluation. And with 84% of your revenue, and over 100% of your profit in the IAG, it seems to me that you better mind the store while you adventure into new areas. Areas that are not currently successful.

All that said, I'm not sure that focus is the problem.

John

My language is : It is better to get a B in 5 courses, than taking only 1 course and getting an A.

Well, since Intel appears to now be heading for a B in the one area they can and should dominate, don't you think it's presumptuous to assume at least a B in the other areas?
