Do you mean the MSM5105? I did not see any product offerings for the MSM5000. Months may seem like an eternity when your stock is flat. However, in the real world, QCOM's execution of delvery for 1X chips is nothing short of a miracle. It's still years ahead of any POTENTIAL WCDMA chipsets.

Good news is that cdmaOne chipsets available to accomplish this, and bad news is that 1x chipsets (MSM5100) a ways away.

I feel like a lightbulb just went off above my head....I'm going to try connecting the dots.

In February, Qualcomm announced the MSM5100....this is a 1xrtt chipset based on the MSM3300. It includes all of the various multimedia capabilities that the MSM3300 does. GPS/R-UIM/MP3....

A couple of weeks ago, John G. found the following spec's on the Qualcomm website for the MSM5105....as far as I know, there was no press release for this ASIC.

The MSM5105 is actually less advanced than the MSM5100. It will be pin compatible with the MSM3300 (as the MSM5100 is) but will only support R-UIM and not all of the other multimedia capabilities (MP3, GPS, etc...). This chipset seems directly aimed at China Unicom. It has generally been accepted that support for SIM/R-UIM was a precondition for any CDMA networks in China. With this chipset, Qualcomm will be able to supply China with 1xrtt and SIM. This chipset seems pretty useless for other markets (Koreans/Japanese would likely demand multimedia capabilities).

No shipping date yet announced....but obviously it should be out before the MSM5100. Looks like the China thing might be for real....

WOW!...while performing a search under "MSM5100" on the Qualcomm website, I found the following....

Ramsey/Mightylakers....anyone want to translate?

I am really going to hate myself if I get suckered by China again....
