I agree with you that the obvious lack of WCDMA resources is becoming an embarrassment for the GSM community. Ultimately, QCOM will have to pick up the slack and do all of the work for the GSM gang. The only mention of WCDMA chipsets in progress has been Gilder, who made the suggestion that QCOM will have a sample chipset by the end of the year.

If we want to get right down to the details, the WCDMA guys need to stand up and get a CDMA license from QCOM. Of all the companies that have licensed 3G licenses from QCOM, only a few have bothered with WCDMA because it is a waste of time for them to spend the money right now.

Though, for the record, I'm not FUDding, and my views concerning an NTT/SpinCo future have been (perhaps too often) posted.
