I agree, it will get much worse. The amount of freedom lost is discernable only when measured in terms of decades or generations. The public has no memory, and so has no way of determining what has been lost.

The decline of educational standards, the triumph of sport as the esthetic center of our culture, unclear national purpose, currency debauchery... there are historical parallels.

<<<Socialism is our destiny- just like europe and canada

We are becoming less socialist, at least in terms of services not being there or what they were. The hospital closest to where i live for example is not going to be an emergency facility any longer. One can still access a hospital further away, of course, time can be of the essence.

2 schools in Toronto had water issues, students have been asked to bring bottled water to school. There 'seems' to be no money around for anything around here. The # of janitors has been cut drastically. I presume some of you read about our Walkerton ?

Welfare payments in the province of Ontario were cut about 20 % a few years ago. More and more people are on the streets of Toronto.

We may be more 'socialist' than the US, but trust me, its dog eat dog here just the same.

i think we closed the deal on socialism when we modified voting laws, established the fed, fdic, income taxes, social security & medicare. It's a lost cause here unless the Republicans sweep, which you know ain't gonna happen. I'm country shopping just in case the Dems sweep... Got any good suggestions? <ng>

--Socialism is our destiny--

slavery does seem to be the natural state of human affairs.
