Kash,

<I can still see AMD at $18 in a few weeks.>

I like your contrarian calls but here is something that could work against you....

SST Preannounces Record Results for 3Q00

AMD could benefit from any positive talk on the flash business. And the odds are AMD will have quite a few things to say about flash this quarter.

<And Intel at $20-25.

If Intel lowers estimates for Q4 watch out below.>

As much as I think Intel was overvalued (and it still is when one considers the PEG), I was surprised by the magnitude of the price drop last week. With increased speedgrades from AMD and with P4 coming in too late to have a meaningful impact this year, I feel certain Intel's Q4 is going to be well under expectations so it will be interesting see what the next 3-4 months will bring.

kash:

The time, in retrospect, to worry was 3 months ago...Time to buy, AMD anyway, is now...Don't know about INTC, though...Hard to tell just how deeply rooted their microprocessors problems are...Strong AMD support around $24-1/4, exactly 1/2 its all-time high of $48.50, interestling enough!

Kash and thread,

Frankly I am quite worried about overall market. I can still see AMD at $18 in a few weeks. And Intel at $20-25.

This wouldn't surprise me either. I can't see any reason that Intel wouldn't warn for Q4. There's just nothing in the pipeline that is going to help them out over the next 3 months.

This news will likely tank AMD or send it sky high.

For this reason, I've decided to open up a LARGE straddle position on AMD. I'm loaded up on puts from $20-25 and on calls from $25-30.

At this point, I don't care if it moves down or up, just as long as it moves.
