Sam - re: "Compaq could not be called just a PC company anymore.....isn't this what DELL is trying to achieve with Wall Street analysts???"

Remember that CPQ has been pushing that message since the Tandem acquisition - it took them more than 2 years to change perception. CPQ now has more than 50% of its revenue in non-PC. Given the current messaging from DELL, it will take them a lot longer than 2 years to achieve the same results.

I think I already commented on MSD's "CPQ is not #1 in any of the top 5 markets" - well, CPQ is absolutely #1 in EVERY market in servers. So that comment just reinforces the fact that DELL management is PC focused. DELL still has 80% of its revenue from PCs and has only begun to push the server message, and still (as in MSD's last comments) falls back on the PC as their rallying cry. With this kind of emphasis from top management, it is no wonder that wall street thinks of DELL as a PC company.

Sam, I spoke to IR today who said today's price reductions was consistent with the guidance given during the Q2 cc (they would lower margins slightly to drive the top line). He said it was mostly component cost related.

:o)
