John,
RE:"If you couple their ineptitude with a suspected slowdown in demand, you have to wonder where this stock is going. They have one hell of a business, it's not like the world can walk away from microprocessors, but I'm beginning to think that they are capable of running it into the ground.

If Jim McMannis knows that Timna is a dead issue two months before Intel does, what does that tell you!?! "
---
LOL...more like 6 months.

What I lack in the technology end I make up for is being able to see the big picture.

So far, no job offers from Intel as a visionary...
<G>
I think Intel is starting to see the light but Rambus...the "cancer on the industry" appears to have hog tied them for at least another 6-9 months...

They did the right thing ditching Timna...despite irresponsibly eating up cash on a doomed project.
Jim

John, <What makes you think Intel didn't add a comfortable fudge factor?>

Often times, schedules never do allow for comfortable fudge factors. I think the fear from management is that the extra time will be filled and then some. So if schedules slip anyway, why not just pull in the schedule just to compensate? Because then quality suffers, there is no more attention to detail, and once the (you-know-what) hits the fan, the blame game starts.

Sure, only the paranoid survive, but there is a big difference between healthy and unhealthy paranoia.

=======================

Hi John,

The fact that Jim knew 6 months ago, means Intel management did too, so, I would bet they kept it going just in case they had to pull it out, sort of like an insurance package, which is a good thing. This is my speculation.

But is this term insurance package needed when Apple warns about low-end market demand? Seems to me, with Apple warning and with e-machines being the way they are now (relative to last year's glory days in the low-end PC market), and with Celeron costs dropping, seems like it is a good decision to cut it, especially since Intel had said they expect strong demand.

Speaking about Barrett's earlier comment regarding strong demand, when's the next CC? For a stock that has dropped this much (the second largest drop in the company's entire history), I am rather surprised Barrett (or Corp Comm) hasn't issued a press release to clear up the confusion regarding his earlier comments, or to set things straight, whatever the case may be.

Regards,
Amy J
