My impression from Bush is that we have laws on the books, lets enforce them. What's the difference between dragging a man behind a truck and killing him if he's white or black. Is there a difference? They're both murders. They should have the same punishment - death. Is there any worse punishment? Laws should be color-blind. The media can decide whether it's a hate crime, keep it out of the courts.

Still, Bush looked much more presidential than Gore. He has a tough matter of fact way about him that says "I can do business with this guy". Gore has that roll another reefer look to him that people don't trust. (although Californians seem to like it)

This is a personality game and I would rather vote for a Texas cowboy than a Tennessean plough-boy.

I loved the way Bush tried to squirm out of the obvious lie (exaggeration?) on the non-existant Texas Hate Crime Law. I can't find access to a transcript yet, but he said something like, "And guess what? Texas has a hate crime law!"

When reminded by Gore that the hate crimes bill backed by the Byrd family did not pass the legislature he spewed something along the lines if murder isn't hate what is it? Texas has murder laws. Hmmm....Brilliant analysis...What a progressive state..

I expect the press to have a field day with this in the coming days. Say bye-bye to many of his Hispanic supporters. Minority voters are smarter than to swallow this lie.

Patricia-Re: Liar Alert!!!!!

The state passed a hate crime bill in 1993 under Democratic Gov. Ann Richards. Bush signed an amended version of the law in 1997.
