Chung, Re: 1.2 GHz & 800 MHz @ TCWO

Great speeds - surprisingly low prices!

I had just "discovered" this and was catching up on the thread before posting. I think this should help sell 7.2M Athlons in 4Q but it certainly seems like Durons are replacing K6 in having very low ASP.

I wonder when we will get the official announcements of 1.2/800 and the new prices.

-PT

Chung - RE: "1.2 GHz is here, major price movement for everything else."

Finally, some news that gets my mind off disappointing earnings. ;)

Whoa, those prices indicate 1.2GHz will NOT be the top speed for the Athlon, at least based on historic prices.

Pricewatch turns up TWO hits for 1.2GHz, both Athlons of course!

But the pricing is REALLY weird -

1.2GHz 1.1GHz 1GHz
Accubyte $599 $593 $349
Bzboyz.com $598 $594 $352
TCWO $492 $371 $283
(your link)

For comparison, 1GHz PIII is $677.

It looks to me Accubyte and Bzboyz.com have gotten the 1.2GHz at the proper price, but haven't gotten their price cut on other Athlons yet. TCWO's pricing might be an indication we will see a 1.3GHz Athlon soon, at least I hope so if those prices are accurate. I don't feel comfortable if the $492 price is correct for 1.2GHz and 1.2GHz is the top speed for Athlon (desktop) this year.
If TCWO's prices are correct, we'll see 900MHz in Gateway's $1299 system real soon. Looks like AMD's holiday push has begun.

EDIT - Now Computer Super Sale is also advertising 1GHz at the new pricing - $281!

Chung,

<1.2 GHz and 800 MHz Duron are here, major price movement for everything else.

1.2 GHz $492
1.1 GHz $371
1.0 GHz $283
950 Mhz $248
900 MHz $190

Boy, that is more aggressive than I thought given there is no P4 yet. Looks to me AMD priced 1.2Gs for P4 intro at the end of October and couldn't back out of its commitments!

Chung,

That's very aggressive pricing. I would like to know what AMD's bin splits are.

Looks like a big October surprise. Either Intel's ASP or retail market share will be crushed in Q4.
