Tim, Re: Criminals can get guns, only the law abiding will be stopped by gun control laws.

Tim, I was unaware that those two groups ("criminals" and "law abiding") were static, with unchanging membership.
I guess no formerly law-abiding citizen with a gun ever *becomes* a criminal after having purchased a gun, nor would such a citizen ever encounter a bout of domestic violence in which that lawfully purchased gun gets used. Thanks for enlightening us.

I guess all of Western Europe is a fluke. Strong gun control, orders of magnitude less gun violence. Funny how that happens, ain't it?

Doug

OT twfowler...Personally.. I'd rather live in a society that attempts to control their proliferation.. rather then throw up their hands at the problem and let everyone own a gun.. should we get rid of drug laws as well? Drug laws dont seem to do much in stopping the usage and importation of drugs in countries.. yet it would be heresy to suggest we liberalize that and allow it to be a free for all (ignore for a second the so-called consitutional right to own a gun - as the US is the only democracy in the world to have something like that.. I'm focusing more on the argument about the laws supposedly not catching the criminals, so we might as well let everyone have acccess to them without restrictions)
