In a large part, the Fed WAS the engine driving the new economy, The FED may push and shove, and raise and jawbone and infuse and humm, but it is the transformation of our industry to make use of digital information that is the real driving force in the new economy. The FED can make temporary adjustments to the pace of the economy, but they do not define it. The economy could be derailed by Congress or the Military by secrecy or restraint of trade but not by the Federal Reserve. TP
