Thanks for very comprehensive coverage of analyst remarks.

The price of JDSU will be controlled by willing buyers
and sellers. It is their impression of expectations
that will govern the future pricing direction.

Additionally, the continuing contraction of price is
progressing in each of the leaders. When and where these
judgements finally reach equilibrium will only be after
the fact.

Roger

pat, thanks for taking your own time on a Saturday to pound out some very comments on this thread.

But i think right now JDSU and NT are just part of an exciting news story. The theme is "high flying opticals drop to earth" The media loves to smear these two companies while the big boys fill their client's accounts with cheap shares.

Things will be sorted out sooner or later.

Pat & Others, I'd be very interested in your comments on one of the current "Cool Posts"--the "7 layer optical cake". While it is not bullish for optic prospects it does seem to make some sense. More sense than barron's assesment of jdsu's recent fortunes at least

how much does (will) Uniphase employ the services of outsourced contract mfg?

I would imagine the world has a dearth of such specialized highly exacting contractors

thanks for your efforts recently during challenging times

and what do you say to those who ask
"if everyone expects a yearend rally, how will it happen?"

thanks, Jim

Pat you presented only part of the quote
Here is complete version
"For the week JDS Uniphase, the biggest maker of optical components, fell 25 to 77.25 despite reporting better-than-expected profits of 18 cents a share in the latest quarter. . . ."

I remember in 1994 when questions were being raised over CSCO's ability to sustain its growth and how they were finally seeing a slowdown in their business. Barron's and CNBC were among the leaders in trying to save us from the coming downfall this high flyer was about to go into. I listened to them and sold my CSCO. JDSU is the closest thing I've seen to being the next CSCO. Needless to say, I don't read Barron's anymore. As far as CNBC goes, Joe Keirnen admits to how he doesn't know much about computers yet tries to tell me about the coming downfall in the FO industry. You think I listen to him either?

You said:
"In case anyone's forgotten, JDSU dropped from 100+ to the 65 range after NT reported and then rebounded to 77 at the close of market Friday based on its excellent numbers."

JDSU was up to $84.50 midday Friday and dropped back to 77 at the close for a "rebound" of 2+13/16. It dropped 35 points in two days. 2+13/16 is not a very impressive rebound if you ask me. It seems to me JDSU is still heading down and Friday it just took a small gasp of air.
