You're mixing apples and oranges here. The article you link talks about what businesses are doing, it doesn't talk about what consumers are doing. Did you read the ft.com article? There was a survey done of consumers, which indicates that the growth of consumer internet users appears to have reached a plateau.

Yes, my point is simply that increase in internet usage does not always equal more money made by companies involved in the internet. In fact one thing we do know is that with the current state of afairs in the equity markets, there will be no more raising money to build networks.
