If you do not understand how a DUI would be more embarrassing than a vague admission of drinking too much, I do not know what to say. I think that he really didn't want to tell his daughters. It may be that, in addition, he was not keen to tell anyone else, but so what? I still think it is a bogus issue. I watched Gore Vidal's "The Best Man" the other night, the movie, with Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson. In that movie, in those innocent times, it was taken for granted that the Robertson character was stupid and immoral for floating a report that his opponent had had a nervous breakdown, and that the Fonda character was altogether nobler because, in the end, he could not bear to fight fire with fire, and release a report that Robertson's character had been accused of homosexual conduct in the military. I think, in fact, that the fact of a nervous breakdown should be released, and that the only thing deplorable was the timing, during balloting at a convention. Also, I do not think that the Fonda character is particularly noble for not using his report, in the end, because by that time he knew it was probably a false allegation. Still, it was refreshing to be reminded that there was a time when it was not expected that everything would be disclosed, or was fair game for the opposition. Anyway, speculate as you like about what remains to be uncovered. The bar has been so lowered by Clinton, I do not see why you would speculate that anything which would force a resignation would arise. But mostly, I think you misjudge Bush. He is not the sort of fellow who has shocking skeletons in the closet, just a handful of embarrassments........
