Scumbria,

The Republican leadership never accepted Clinton's presidency, which was on far more solid ground than Bush's.

I believe Clinton received only 43% of the vote, vs. 48% for Bush or Gore in this election. So either man will have at least as much legitimacy.

I came across a link to an interesting page for the recount:
foxnews.com

Bush's lead is shrinking as we speak. Oh oh.

Joe

Re <<Bush will walk into the Whitehouse crippled, from day one.>> This reality exists for Gore as well. There was no great, overwhelming "mandate" throughout the country for either individual, obviously.

Re <<The Republican leadership never accepted Clinton's presidency, which was on far more solid ground than Bush's.>> The validity of this conclusion hinges on how one defines the term "accepted", IMHO.

Regards,

Scumbria - "Bush will walk into the Whitehouse crippled, from day one."

My only point was that he will be president. Unless Gore wins in Florida, that is.

So what if Gore wins Florida, and Bush wins the national popular vote?
