John,

Just approach it the simplest possible way.

Support use of the full HTML standard and perhaps some XML

===--

Then over in the customization section every user can use, do the following:

Allow the user to customize their view of SI by 'disallowing/allowing' each html tag that SI allows.

You could even default all users to what we have now. Then no one would get upset if they didn't want to see the appropriate functionality.

-------------

Lastly have the post be posted as it is (no filtering of tags) and when it comes time to retrieve the post, the filter would be applied according to the user's settings, when it generates the web page to be seen.

---------

This method would essentially please everyone. It wouldn't be very hard to implement, and it would move the filtering code out of the posting side. U might just end up with much leaner code.

And in terms of filtering if you did it write, the filter could simply be a data driven algorithm. Once you write the filter to read a data element as the filter element, you will never have to change a line of code again.

re colored fonts by users

My vote:
Allow passages in the body of messages
to be colored by users. This will make it CLEAR
(if used sensibly) what is that _users_ *wish* to
EXPRESS.

Don't allow colored backgrounds or colored titles
to be set by users. Colored backgrounds would give
us ugly unreadable messages (but it worked my machine!!!).
Colored titles would give us a garish quest for attention.

Ojing
well, maybe you could allow three colors of titles:
red for pessimists, bad news, black for generic and
blue or green for good news.

Morning John.

1)message text- black only(exception the first line may be colored as it is now). I think we should leave the text black. That way, when you get the "search function" working correctly, we'll be able to see our "search results" in red- like it used to be!)

2)Original post- Sure, let 'em use color. How about font size too? Let us use font size 2 to 8?

3)Profile page- sky's the limit(since I have cable<g>)

4)subject titles- font colors and limited font size.

*NOTE* I'm opposed to allowing images in a post. Perhaps an exception can be made for "coffee Shop" threads. You make the call there. I can go either way on it.

P.S> About those new "public threads": No holds barred, IMO. Let them have free reign of what ever they want to do. So long as they stay off our boards.

P.S>They will still be prohibited from our Coffee SHop, right?

BTW, can you give me some feed back on this?

Thanks.
