Re:ASP's NEVER go up in Q1

John,

In your calculations for next years EPS did you factor in any increase in ASP for the last 3 Qtrs of the year.

Yeah- normally. But this time was a "special" situation.

AMD had to (according to Jerry) discount Durons to make up for the non availability of the UMA graphics integrated chipset for Socket A.

These should be available in good quantity by Q1.

I think Jerry snookered us on this. I think, that us why no one is willing to trust Jerry at all.

When things are going fine, he looks ok. But as soon as things turn a bit south, even a little bit, he is VERY sneaky. He never levels.

Did he admit today that the 1.5GHz Mustang rollout is a 1-2 Q delay?

He did not hesitate to mouth off last Q when he declared "1.5GHz in Jan!"

I believe that he pulled the same with ASP's with us last Q (regarding Integrated UMA chipset etc.).

The bottom line is Intel is a tough beast. They still have 80%+ of the market, and OEM's are not that enthu to piss them off.

Additionally I believe INTC makes "strategic" incisive strikes. Going in and "throwing" a significant amount of money on the table on a "need-to-do" basis to counter AMD wins in the commercial sector.

OEM executives that are anxious to make the next Q's numbers are snookered too easily.

Just my take on the situation. AMD is doing a nice job keeping up with Intel in the market, but Jerry is doing them (and us) quite a disservice with his shenanigans.

ASP's NEVER go up in Q1. For anyone to expect otherwise is lunacy. (Exception, Q1'2000 when Athlons were replacing K6's bigtime)

Huh?
