Blake,

There are 10,000 absentee ballots outstanding, and a 300 vote difference, and you are asking Gore (who won the popular vote) to concede, in order to help out the stock market?

A Gore concession right now would be absurd and catastrophic.

Scumbria

Blake, re: your memo to the VP.
First let me say that I really don't care who wins. I just wish there had been better choices.
Secondly, I have no opinion on Florida laws regarding the PB ballot or recounts. Mainly because I don't know them. (Although I couldn't resist posting a humorous cartoon on the ballot). <g>
That said, I found your memo, and plea to mount a campaign to flood the VP with that memo, somewhat hypocritical.

4. By persisting with legal challenges and public posturing at this time, your organization is jeopardizing the integrity of the imperfect, yet crucial, foundation to our democracy that is the Presidential election system.

The Bush camp has filed a legal challenge with the Federal Court to intervene in Florida's recount. Since Florida has law's and precedence regarding recounts, why take it to Federal Court? BTW, it looks like public posturing on both sides to me.

5. The millions of Americans with investments in the stock market have suffered substantial economic losses this past week as a result of the uncertainties created by the Florida ballot complaints lodged by your campaign.

Should the outcome of a highly contested election be influenced by what happened last week in the market?

6. The events since election day make us appear weak and divided to our enemies overseas.

Clearly we are divided, about 50/50. As far as appearing weak, isn't that just an opinion?

7. Various AP reports clearly link the origin of lawsuits and complaints to Democratic party activities, which began before Florida poll closings on election day. The American people know this and do not view these legal and public relations challenges (to the balloting) as representative of the will of the people.

How do you know what is the "will of the people"? I'd guess they are divided in this respect also.

Please do not allow your organization to disrespect the people any further. Do the right thing and concede NOW.

Disrespect for which half of the people?

and also forward my email to 5 friends, asking that they forward to 5 other friends (and email the VP demanding that he concede, of course), etc..

Ah, a chain letter campaign by one faction. Good luck. <g>

Let's hope when this is over that the true winner is elected and that there is consensus in the result.

Hey, Blake, do you happen to know George W. Bush' e-mail address, I would like to send him a similar note suggesting we all let Floridians decide according to their state laws what is the best way to determine the will of the people, without suits in federal courts to stop recounting of sample ballots to determine if something might have been wrong with the electronic count.

I just heard a report that those punch cards (not just the butterfly affair, but all punch cards used there in 26 counties) have an error rate of 32/1000 that is 3.2% quite unacceptable, IMHO, particularly when the winner has a margin under .005%. It is quite possible that all the punch cards, if recounted manually, would increase Bush' margin rather than decrease it. It sure would be nice to know that the electoral vote there was won by a margin a little bigger than .005% (g).
