Jim said: Stribe, sometimes it's hard to believe you are serious. The US and Canada are and will always be the greatest of friends. To the US...Canada is hardly a foreign country.

I dont disagree we arent friends and will be; but that statement is irrelevant to my point. That has NOTHING to do with whether or not the US will become more isolationist or not towards the rest of the world... I believe Canadians as a whole tend to be more international in our outlook, and that the US seems to rotate from hands-on with the rest of the world to isolationism. The US is a world leader; it has under Clinton attempted to get more involved with the world. I am afraid under Bush it will withdraw into a "Fortress America" mentality.

Wanting the US to NOT do that doesnt mean Canadians hate the US Jim,; how you managed to turn a comment stating my specified worry about the US's int'l policy under Bush into "Canada and the US are friends, but some Canadians hate the US" is beyond me.. do all of you Republicans use fuzzy logic? <grin>

EDIT: a) to clarify, I am perfectly confident that Canada and the US will remain friends regardless of who they decide is president-elect. What I am saying Jim is that I am worried how Bush will interact with the rest of the world.

b) not all Republicans use fuzzy logic: this response to that concern by Mr. Langston here is one I still am not sure about, but he makes valid points good enough to consider.

Jim,

Each year we get a bunch of Canadian snowbirds overwintering in FL and Arizona. The main complaint I hear that that they are "cheap". Maybe they don't have much left after paying all their taxes. They do seem to enjoy using the facilities my tax dollars have paid for though.

I got a kick out of a sign I saw in Florida (either in Miami or FT. Lauderdale). One direction of the sign said "Airport" the other said "Quebec 1,500 miles". <g>
