<PT: no P4 chipset w/DDR until 1Q02 from Intel>

That should send VIA stock skyward.

PT,

Re: Intel Roadmap

I find it interesting that Intel adds 1.3 GHz P4 instead of 1.7 GHz P4 in January.

PT, re:<no P4 chipset w/DDR until 1Q02 from Intel> Intel is giving the VIA division rights to its P4 DDR chipsets because of secret agreements with Rambus which restrict DDR to 2002 and later.

re: <1.3 GHz P4> Earlier we heard about a 1.6 GHz from the Register. My interpretation is that we will see both in early Q1. Intel does not have enough yield at 1.6 GHz to launch it immediately since the total volumes are still low.

The chips that fail 1.4 GHz testing will be stockpiled as 1.3 GHz. By not launching this speed immediately, Intel is trying to avoid negative publicity about the 1.3 being slower than a 1 GHz PIII. They are hoping that in another 2-3 months more applications will be SSE2-enhanced.

After seeing production benchmarks today I am convinced that AMD will have no trouble selling all the Athlons it can make in Q1.
