Well seat of the pants is fine in some cases but with such complex technology as this I might disagree on that approach with optical co's. The other thing that comes to mind is that beta was better than VHS, and the guy who eventually died in a bar fight had a better op system to offer IBM than did Bill Gates, but some how inferior products carried the day. One never quite knows...

As I recall there has been discussion here re: Gilder and Crowe's <LVLT CEO> alleging that false statements were made in his GTR. Specifically, Crowe alleged in his letter 360netowrks could not have lit 10,000 of its 20,000 miles in North America with 1600 NT/AVNX waves at 10 Gbps because the product is not available until late 2001. I asked Investor Relations to confirm or deny Gilder's statement in the GTR. This was the response I received this morning. Judge for yourself. Dear Lisa, Yes, we have lit 10,000 miles of network in North America. In certain areas of our network where we expect high traffic we have lit the network with the Nortel 1600 series.
