i don't disagree on the principle that there are things worth protecting, if that's what you mean...i don't see what the connection is to democracy however, except to say that the chance for such protection to be extended are probably the greatest under a democracy, and once a certain standard of living is achieved, not to forget. people in poor countries probably don't give a sh*t about any of this....you and i wouldn't either, if we were hungry. don't know about higher authorities...never met one i liked.
