Given the choice of multi-channel DWDM or single channel SONET, do you still think Nortel sold Qwest the right equipment?

I think that is an oversimplification of the issue. SONET had some advantages in protection and some advantages in working with legacy equipment as well as some advantages in voice. As the market has moved to more data, DWDM has move advantages. I also think that if we compare Nortel's optical transport product with Ciena's product that Nortel has some advantages in cost, performance and especially optical intelligence. A purchaser would also have to look at what Nortel is planning by way of optical switching.

"Fortunately, Qwest has seen the light. SONET is toast."

Do you have any evidence to support this statement? Thanks.
