I read an article the other day that quoted the Speaker of the House of the Florida legislature. He said he would "pull the trigger" (nice choice of language, eh?) and appoint electors if the court failed to act this week.

It won't end until someone forces Gore to give it up.

I will be hard for Bush to give it up. He has blustered, and litigated, and raised the rhetorical stakes to the point that he is having difficulty finding an exit strategy. It doesn't help that the moderate babysitter that was assigned by the Bush family, Dick Cheney, is hiding under the bed, while the radical watchdog assigned by Tom DeLay and friends, Karen Hughes, has her leash wrapped around Bush's legs and is barking at every passing reporter.

I wonder what Bush-daddy is thinking. His legacy, thin as it was, is now tied to this double public humilation of the Bush brothers.
