Art,

Hadn't noticed this: a pure play competitor has IPO'd.

netscape.marketwatch.com

Claims their production process uses half the silicon. I can't say if that's better or worse than APWR's method of recycling chips, but I'll bet it's close. When they get the process refined, that is. Meanwhile, these guys are NOT making money on their products:

Since APWR is recycling, it still seems greener to me. Then there's the first mover advantage. Waiting for the climax sell off to re-enter APWR. Looking for low 20s. If the bottom is in for the NAZ, APWR is probably OK in the high 20s. My HO. ESLR looks to me like an end of bull market IPO: low quality.

There is some handy info about the market in the 424:

"The solar power market has experienced significant growth over the past 20 years. Solar power applications that are not connected to the existing utility grid, also referred to as off-grid applications, provide remote power for rural
electrification in developing countries, remote homes in developed countries, water pumping, transportation signals, telecommunications and other uses. Solar power applications that are connected to the existing utility grid, also
referred to as on-grid applications, are used to supplement power generated by electric utilities, typically on residential and commercial buildings. PV Energy Systems, a leading independent market research firm, estimates that on-grid shipments represented 31% of the total solar power market in 1999 and have grown at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 47% from 1990 to 1999, while off-grid shipments, representing 69% of the 1999 solar power market, have grown approximately 13% per year since 1990."

Cheers, Tuck

The market really tanked a lot of hopes and dreams this year..... The next buy signal on APWR should be very interesting though, and I may even buy some if I can find some spare change around here somewhere..... Happy Holidays!
