Zeev, I would think that voter intent on a dimpled ballot would be shown only if other dimples existed on the same ballot other than the one for Gore. Senator Kerry is suggesting the dimples were created by 85-year-old women who aren't strong enough to punch through; if so, that will be demonstrated elsewhere on the ballot. If the only dimple is by Gore, I find it hard to believe that that is proof of voter intent even by a civil preponderance of the evidence standard.

Regardless, I think the market will be better served at this point if Gore is elected in a bitterly disputed election. Look at Gore's history; he is a complete chameleon, with little evidence of any strong personal beliefs or policy goals. He will go into office thinking intensely of winning and proving his legitimacy in 2004, and that means he will govern incredibly far right to co-opt the Republicans. There will be fewer liberals in his White House than the in the current administration. He will also do anything possible to maintain the economy, and his Treasury Secretary will be someone Wall Street and Greenspan will love.

Also, I think the best thing that can come of this election is local election reform. There is a lot of low level election fraud in areas in this country (double- and triple-voting, dead-voting, non-citizen voting, etc.), and it mostly benefits Democrats. The Republicans can use this opportunity to clean up the system.

My point is that assuming a dimpled ballot is a vote for Gore is bullsh*t. There is no way there are voters so feeble that they cannot punch through a ballot.

Hey Zeev Happy Turkey...
This election stuff just will not quit.. I believe the Republicans will stretch this out till December 12..They will not accept a Gore victory under these circumstances..
