andreas:

Somebody is wrong...Yesterday in Dresden, AMD stated that all important Y2000 milestones had been accomplished...I can only assume that means 8 million (minimum) Q4 microprocessor shipments...Today RS drops estimate of Q4 processor shipments from 6.5 million to 6 million and Peck on CNBC warns investors to stay away from INTC and AMD until Q4 warnings have been issued...

A 2 million variance in microprocessor shipments!!!Just doesn't add up...Someone has to eat crow!!!

Andreas,

so much for cutting the prospects of AMD by Robertson Stephens - here is the processor top 10 bestseller list of K&M Elektronik of December 5, 2000:

1 AMD ATHLON 900 Thunderbird
2 AMD DURON 700
3 AMD DURON 800
4 AMD ATHLON 800 Thunderbird
5 AMD K6-2 500
6 AMD ATHLON 1000 Thunderbird
7 AMD DURON 650
8 INTEL PENTIUM MMX 233
9 AMD ATHLON 700 Thunderbird
10 AMD ATHLON 750 SLOT-A

Damned, we definitely have to find an answer to Intel's Pentium MMX 233..... :)

Peter

This could explain today's price action (AMD underperforming the SOX):

The attached post, referencing official AMD data, seems to contradict the Robertson Stephens report. Is it meant to indicate that production goals have been reached or is it expanded to customer shipment goals? And is this only in regards to Dresden or total AMD output?

<“Our checks also indicate that Via’s KM133 chipset — which mates with AMD’s Duron and Athlon processors — has yet to be approved by AMD. Given that the KM133 offers integrated graphics and eliminates the need for a separate graphics card, sales of Durons into the value end of the PC market effectively should be limited. We believe that the work-around for the KM133 requires a re-layout of the PC motherboard, resulting in a time penalty that should push out the availability of Duron/KM133 motherboards into 1Q01. >

Here we go again! I wonder if the SiS chipset is ready to pickup some of the slack or if that too is delayed further.

That Athlon price move you posted couple of posts back looks even better given this news.
