<This is the worst decision I have ever seen. The Supreme court has taken us back to square 1 all over again. The US Supreme Court is going to have a field day with this ruling. The only silver lining to this decision is that this should be the last time we hear from the complete morons on the FL State Supreme Court.>

Well said. This is truly a said day for our Legal System. So much for a non-partisan branch of Government. Our founding fathers are surely rolling in their grave.

Keith, I have always thought it odd that the undervotes were not counted statewide from the get-go in such a close contest. The law has been pretty clear that the candidate with the most votes wins and that in a close election we are not to rely only on the "machine" to do the counting. In other words, it is well recognized that a manual hand count gives a more accurate indication of the will of the people.

Don't you want to make sure our next president was elected properly, not based upon incomplete returns. It will be bad enough if the legally elected president does not have the popular vote but would add insult to injury if it was later determined that he didn't even carry the electorial vote. After all, those ballots can be obtained under the freedom of information act. It is important to get the correct count now, not find out later we were wrong.

I am all for a statewide manual count and don't think the Florida Legislature should interfere with the natural voting process. George Bush should have agreed to a statewide recount from day one.

Yes, it will probably hurt our portfolios in the short-term but the effect should not last long.

Bux

More political spin. Since it is highly unlikely that the canvassing boards around the state will be able to complete the recount by Tuesday, the slate of electors named by the FLorida legislature will be the final word. On Tuesday, the decisions of the florida legislature enters safe harbor which cannot be contested. It seems to me that this final manual recount of all Florida counties should have been ordered weeks ago. With everyone going home for the weekend, how are they going to get anyone back to turn the machines back on. This reminds me of Trading Places when Mortimer (or his brother) cries out, "Turn the machines back on!!" once their position in OJ futures heads south. I think that there is no one left that could not construe this political activism by the State Supreme Court to have any legitimacy.

The noble thing to have done: The FL legislature ought to have convened as soon as it became apparent that the "undervotes" held the key to the national election - and legislated statewide standards for manually processing them.
