CMB, even though there is some basis for your statements, I sure hate to see stuff like that in print! Whatever the outcome, and it looks like an outcome for GWB, we need to unite behind the new President and move beyond this. Insulting minorities is not the way to do that.

Stupid people go in, don't or can't read the instructions that tell them to be sure and make sure there chads are clearly punched out. These stupid people tend to be lower class,

CMB, what a classy guy you are!

Regards,

Tom

CMB,

Interesting flight of bigotry and fantasy. I realize that people with elitist tendencies always like to consider themselves among the elite no matter how ridiculous they are, but I got a good laugh trying to imagine Bush as the thoughtful, intelligent person's choice or as a poster child for superior education -- he's hardly the best or the brightest. But rather than suggest the use of a mirror to find better evidence for your theories of stupidity, I thought perhaps I would refer you to Occam's Razor, a philosophical proposition suggesting that in trying to evaluate two different explanations for a given phenomenon, the simpler and less complicated one is more likely to be correct.

In the case of Florida ballots, there were more uncounted ballots in predominantly Democratic districts. Rather than your involved characterization of the voters in those districts being unable to punch properly, a simpler explanation is that more of the flawed punchcard voting machines were employed in predominantly Democratic south Florida than elsewhere in the state. Since these machines simply didn't count many of the ballots, counting the uncounted ballots will produce more votes for Bush and more votes for Gore but probably more votes for Gore than Bush reflecting the preponderance of Democratic voters in those areas.

The Supreme Court's decision to stay the counting of votes in Florida does not reflect one of its better moments. I think the dissenting opinion of Justice Stevens (with three others concurring) is correct when he states:

there is a danger that a stay may cause irreparable harm to the respondents -- and, more importantly, the public at large -- because of the risk that "the entry of the stay may be tantamount to a decision on the merits in favor of the applicants."...Preventing the recount from being completed will inevitably cast a cloud on the legitimacy of the election."
frwebgate.access.gpo.gov

The election result looks headed toward unfair cloaked in "legal". The electoral college system sets up the possibility of a minority President in the first place and the obstruction of a full counting of Florida votes to distort the electoral result caps it off. Hopefully, the American people will learn something from the experience and next time turn out to vote in significantly larger numbers and make significantly smarter choices.

CM...I voted for Al Bush. Had to write it in cause I couldn't find it on the ballot. I slipped on some chads coming out of the booth and accidentally pulled the George Gore lever. Still ain't sure which way it registered. Hopefully, it will be recounted by Bill (let's steal another Chicago style election) Daley. His old man was an ignorant racist. Just happened to be a Democrat.

Looks like the market has turned it around. Get long the NAZ.

roger

While we may argue over whether or not CM Burns is racist, elitist, or just an annoying parrot for the Far Right, we will never equate intelligence with him nor Governor Bush.

I think the statistics would predict the Gore always gaining phenomena better...

Just as we've seen statistics showing that there was higher murder rated in Gore counties...

Results. Stupid people go in, don't or can't read the instructions that tell them to be sure and make sure there chads are clearly punched out. These stupid people tend to be lower class, and therefor support Gore in larger percentages, so he get's more of these hand count votes.

I don't imagine that these "stupid people" use correct spelling or proper punctuation either...

best...
