California--Land of SAVE this and SAVE that--everything from "save the farm animals" to " Save the universe" lets see if they can save this and that when it comes to their pocketbook.
From la la land to a dose of reality.

JQP RE: << After reading that all I can say is that I am so glad I don't live in California. >>

I think that out here in Ca. we have the same inept and inefficient beauracrats in gov that you probably have where you are. We also have a general population that is more conscious of the environment and is more willing to pay an economic price for that consciousness. I would rather have less income and be able to continue to drink water from my creek out of my hands and know that my chilren are breathing relatively cleaner air, than make more money some where else. Of course I am not barely scraping by trying to make a living and feed my family. I can see why loggers and building contractors are so opposed to environmental protections, I cannot see why people who are wealthy enough to be able to afford to invest in the market would be.

If we look at the real cost of burning oil we would include the effects on the environment and health. The truth is that the cost of oil should be higher and will be higher, and that the price we pay for alternative energy that is renewable and environmentally sound will be well worth that cost when the hidden costs of oil are considered.
