UPDATE: Manual recount looks likely, IMHO. Boeies did extremely well. The question is how a standard will be established. The Supreme Court seems to think a standard is definitely necessary. Most of us agree. That is the remaining question they have to come to grips with.

If they can, we get a recount. If we get a recount and the standard is a hanging chad or write-in name only, Bush will still likely win.

For those of you investing in the market:
If Bush wins with a recount, the market will really love it. If Gore wins, then it may not, at least right away. If there is not a recount and Bush wins, it also still likes it (at least for the time being) but not as much as the first scenario.

Yes, doc I agree with you. I would like to see a recount with a uniform, strict standard. The American public would see that was fair. The Broward County recount was partisan.

However, the Bush camp can only argue for the impossibility of fair recounts, since they know they would lose any recount, even with a strict & uniform standard, due to the slight but systematic skewing of the original vote count caused by the location of the old Votomatic machines in primarally Democratic districts.

If the USSC rules that manual recounts are essentially unconsitutional, that will be very sad for democracy.
