I think if AMD can stay about 20% of the x86 business and stay number two in flash they should be alright. But I never would have guessed a company like 3dfx would be acquired, if you asked me three years ago.

An optimistic way to look at AMD is if AMD extended their above average execution by another year and 1/2 to 2, and if Intel extended their below average execution in the same time frame, we could see something similar to what happened between NVDA and 3dfx.

Long time no message.

nVidia acquired 3dfx to get the gigapixel stuff. The reason is simple... nVidia can't make the specs they promised MSFT for the xBox without the gigapixel tech (gigapixel was originally to be the graphics engine for xBox).
