Just this Friday at my wife's school they had a lunch time incident that left the school population splitting off into their ethnic groups. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Whites all literally poised as little "armies". She was a little unnerved at the potential. This is her last year.

Speaking of those totally unprepared for the world of work and responsibility, simply throwing more money at public schools is far from the answer. The school district here, though poor from the standpoint of the general population, has upwards of 60% more funds per student than the other schools in the county. Standardized test scores are consistently lower. Kids have been allowed to graduate without the benefit of being able to read. It is not uncommon to find 14 year olds that did not know how many quarters were in a dollar. Throw in other observations such as 5 out of 8 girls of a graduating class being pregnant, a 22 year old with 8 kids, a group of grown men openly discussing how big some of the 13-14 year old girls sexual organs were, and.....well...that is enough.
