Looking at "REAL" GDP is probably a total waste of time.

Here's an example of something that few think of, that's not included in GDP, but should be accounted for in some way.

If the country is producing 10% more widgets, but 2 rivers and a lake are polluted in order to do so, shouldn't we be depreciating the rivers and lakes? Air? Trees?

How do you account for other intangible losses in quality of life that increased production might bring about?

I think there are a lot of problems and questions with the GDP calculations besides some of the things that investors think about.
