It's not simply a matter of physically campaigning in those areas. It's having a campaign platform that meets the needs and values of people outside of large population centers. Look at the map of who won what geographic areas, and you'll see. Gore took large urban population centers. Bush took virtually everything else.

Counties: Bush 2,434; Gore 677

Population of counties won by Bush: 143 million; counties won by Gore 127 million

Interesting stat on crime:
Average Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Bush: 2.1; in counties won by Gore: 13.2

<Did either candidate campaign in Hawaii?? How about Alaska? The Candidates still concentrate their time and pledged representation in the major Populas States. NY/FLA/TX/CA/MI etc.. >

Alaska and Hawaii don't get campaign time because of remoteness and the fact the election is in the bag there, anyway, HI for Dems, Alaska for Republicans. Neither Bush nor Gore campaigned in New York for the same reason. The candidates grovel in any state where they have a chance, if they're smart enough.

<The smaller states still get left out!! >

Sometimes. Gore left Tennessee and Arkansas out of his plans.

But does the Electoral College really work?

THAT, my netfriend, is the question that should frame this debate.

But, alas, this is the Globalstar thread, I don't come here to argue the merits or demerits of the electoral college, I come here to peaceably assemble and discuss Globalstar in relative domestic tranquility.

I hereby nominate Carter Patterson as my duly appointed elector. Whatever he says goes. I don't care what the majority thinks. Now I can go back to my main objective, "the pursuit of happiness." And this way I don't have to think about it anymore, and the Maurice Winn's and Ramsey Su's of this world can't come barging in here claiming to own the place and bossing me around. But be warned, if you start beating up on Carter, or tearing down my system, you are opening up a serious can of whupp-ass. <G>
