Ali... You are a genius. You got all of that out of the following comment made by this guy...

"I bought a new Micron computer from BestBuy and either something is wrong or this thing is slow. Maybe you can help me understand which is the case. It is a 1Ghz Athlon system with 128 MB of DDR PC1600 Ram."

LMAO!!! I just made it to the toilet!!!!

Ali,

No. That is just a bad rumor. The idiot put "Partition Magik" over the 30G FAT32 partition, which rearranges disk partitions logically, through who-knows how many layers of linked directory trees (AFAIK). When copying large amount of small files, it creates HUGE seek overhead, and overall transfer must be really slow.

I've been using "Partition Magik" [sic] for years to manage my hard drives. It isn't anything more than a glorified FDISK and FORMAT program which creates and formats partitions on a hard drive. These are all standard partitions and formats. There's no additional software drivers or anything unique created -- it's simply a way to create and adjust partition sizes while leaving the data you have in place. I've never had a problem with it trashing data, nor has it affected the performance of my system (having installed it on 3 systems after using both before and after the installation).

This appears to be just another bad rumor you're trying to start.

There is no limit in people idiocies.

Excellent point.

Ali,

The idiot put "Partition
Magik" over the 30G FAT32 partition, ...

I really don't see why partition magic should cause such a problem. You imply that it introduces lots of additional indirection in traversing directory trees, or that the locality of lots of related files is lost. Maybe, but I doubt it.

Regardless of that, once the files had been copied to a new partition, as they were, any effects attributable to partition magic would be lost.

There is no limit in people idiocies.

I remember you once claimed that Rambus would only work properly under favourable weather conditions.
