Stitch, Thanks for posting your notes of the Quantum DD. I listened to it and sounded encouraging to me. My conclusion is that there is plenty of demand, but that the health of the DD makers hinges on the level of price aggressiveness.

I am more convinced that the high level of inventory turns will remove the need to dump obsolete units into the market. I think that was the real reason for the losses, and if that is removed, then it is sunshine for us long suffering DD investors.

I hope the market sees it this way too.

Thanks,
Sarmad

Stitch -

Summarizing a CC... What will you do for us next?

A few other notes:

PVRs est to have grown from 100k in 99 to 1mil 2000, est 2.8mil 2001. Seems to be ramping like a typical consumer electronic item

Desktop 7200rpm drives should make up 25% of the market

High end 10k drives should be 30% of the market by end of year.

5wks inv in the channel. Up from 2wks last Q, but still "normal" 2wks last Q was low.

To play devil's advocate on a segment I don't see having other than trading potential:
These stocks have rarely exceed 10 to 15 times earnings when earnings are good (even back when this was a growth business). What would it take for these companies to earn even 10% of their market cap. Hasn't happened in a long time.
HTCH is very uninteresting. Can't make money even after writing off huge amounts of capital investment. -Z

Stitch, Are you still out there? Any thoughts on the validity and implications of the Fujitsu rumor? Thanks, -Z
