It's my understanding that the tensile strength of wood is greater than that of steel. Do you know if this is true? (I understand that this is not your area of expertise)

lumber prices were dropping since the agreement to restrict lumber imports from Canada was agreed to be terminated last Spring. The effective date is this March. Perhaps, domestic producers were upping their output in anticipation of this.

i see. that may partly explain the steep drop. is there any way of quantifying the degree of substitution beyond the anecdotal?
