Because he told me that these threads remained to be evaluated. (My wording.) In fairness, Bob agreed to read before he makes up his mind. He has just responded in favor of the foundation for the thread Rules. The alternative is that we lose them all. Entirely

1. No libel
2. Don't accuse someone of criminal activity unless you can prove it.
3. No obscenity or obscene discussions.

I would agree to 1 & 2 readily, but 3 is very subjective.

If the is sufficient to cause trouble, then my answer has to be "shut 'em down."

I'm getting the impression from YYB that there's a clear and present danger to the threads. I, for one, would hate to see them deleted. Look how many messages we've generated in such a short period of time. There must be something good going on here.

This political sniping has been going on all over SI. Shutting down these threads won't stop that; it will just move the problem around. It's like Fram oil filters--pay me now or pay me later.

We've made a start here at seeing if we can operate by some rudimentary standards--an ugly start, but a start. I'd like to see us ask SI Bob for enough time to go through a process to see if we can agree on some ground rules. I don't think we can do a very good job of solving this whole problem under the gun like this. We've got the rudiments of an infrastructure set up on this thread. Could we agree to try to work through the problem here over the next, say, week and see if we can reach any agreement? I don't see when and where we will have a better chance. And if we can't, we can't.
