Joe - Re: "You may be right that the OEM's may not jump on the 760 MP chipset for a lot of reasons, but if it works as advertised, it would make a fine entry level server. As good as majority of current Intel based solutions."

How can you say this?

It has taken AMD nearly 2 years and they still don't have an SMP product ready to go - and Intel has been shipping IN VOLUME (not AMD Volume !) SMP solutions since 1996 !!!

And you claim an as yet non-working, non-tested, non-field proven AMD product will be "As good as majority of current Intel based solutions.""

WHy - because it's from AMD?

That's pure fantasy.

Paul

Joe - Re: "And while P6 may have another year to 18 months of useful lifetime ahead of itself, AMD EV6 based CPUs have at least half a year of extra life left in them compared to Intel P6, because of better clock speed scaling."

Huh?

AMD has maxed out on clock speed.

They introed a 1.2 GH ThumperTURD iN October of last year and only now - three months late - is it getting into production.

The heat dissipation is a KILLER - and un;ess the PaloMeano is a miracle chip - it too will burn way too much power that dual CPU systems won't even bew considered.

They will have an adoption among OEMs similar to the Joke Mobile DppWrong launch from last week - one company with a Japan-only - never-heard-of product.

And don't forget - these PaolMEanos wil have NO HOPE of a large L2 cache capability - unlike XEONS which are available with 2 Meg L2 cache.

I'm sure the Pions and the Xigabotcho comnpanies will readily use the AMD chips - but they will be jokes - and will really be glorified PCs.
