Tim <They are only too expensive because oil is cheaper.>

Great point. Alternatives to gasoline are in most cases still less expensive than what the rest of the world pays (for gasoline).

Tim,

The definition of alternative:

Main Entry: 2alternative
Function: noun
Date: 1624
1 a : a proposition or situation offering a choice between two or more things only one of which may be chosen; b : an opportunity for deciding between two or more things

You suggest that there are alternatives to oil but then you say that oil is cheaper; that then takes away the option of choice. The lower price forces one to choose oil every single time. Alternatives means viable choices; again the lower cost of oil takes away that option of choice.

Hence there is no alternative to oil.....so back to the original question: there may never be a viable alternative to oil so why are we consuming it like Hitler is in NYC and moving West?
