Looking at a couple of the FAQ...it seems it would be important to know if this is connected to the USB, PS/2 port, or Serial Port. There seems to be several versions of this device...including wireless and optical. They also mention conficts with an internal pointing device using the same port.

Just to start this step looked interesting:

Press CTRL+ESC to open the Start menu.

Use the ARROW keys to select Settings, and then press ENTER.

Use the ARROW keys to select Control Panel, and then press ENTER.

Use the ARROW keys to select System, and then press ENTER.

Press CTRL+TAB to select the Device Manager tab.

Press TAB twice to get to the device list (Computer should be selected).

Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Mouse. If there is a PLUS SIGN (+) next to Mouse, press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand the Mouse branch.

Check for the Microsoft Mouse With Wheel device.

Then this link gives some ideas ....however, it is all on Windows95/98. You probably can determine the appropriate steps from this for Win2000. It also listed some programs that are known to cause conflicts with this mouse(Norton was not listed but then the list is just for Win95/98).

Just in case you don't have the latest drivers or your drivers are corrupted:

EDITED:Do you have the mousinfo tool installed?

Intellimouse Problem:

Do you have the tiling feature?

Here is the expanded list of pointing device articles and reading article 21 about tiling seems to describe what your mouse is doing...only not stopping.

I am also seeing a lot of references to ISSET_SE when Norton Antivirus and Intellimouse are installed on a computer.

hi patrick

from the systemworks readme.txt...

*********************************

"Microsoft IntelliPoint

If "Hide pointer while typing" is enabled through the Intelli- Point mouse properties, the mouse pointer can disappear in the Norton SystemWorks program and not reappear. Disable "Hide pointer while typing" while using the Norton SystemWorks program."

********************************

that do anything?

"Seems to me that this problem came up before, probably sometime last summer."

this tells me, though, that the prob may not necessarily be related to nsw. do you agree?

:)

I use a G400 but not Win2000.
In my email from Matrox is an upgrade for the Win2000
driver and linked to
matrox.com

this may or may not help (I read CL to learn since I am woeful at this stuff) but some others may comment if the video driver
control or may cause your set of problems.
