I think I would have liked your grandmother's place a lot. Her too, she sounds like a character! If the waitress has big hair and calls me 'hon', I don't really care what the food is like. I've eaten at the Hummingbird! I used to live down St. Charles Ave. and worked in the Quarter. You say it used to be the wino district. You're saying that Magazine Street has gone upscale? I can't picture that. But then, I'm thinking of how it looked before the World's Fair came there in 1980. I heard they changed quite a few things to accommodate the Fair.
