Tony, IDF starts today. I was surfing through the IDF web site, and I came across this track:

intel94.com

A concept of a 1U, dual Itaniumâ„¢ processor, rackable, high density server system is developed with innovative packaging and processor/ system cooling components. Several key components of the 1U concept in the areas of cooling, power, memory and interconnection have been prototyped. Thermal management, a critical component of this high density server concept, has undergone an extensive optimization process and will be presented.

An Itanium server in a 1U chassis? Pretty hard to imagine, considering Itanium's cooling requirements, but I certainly like the concept!

P.S. - While you're there, you might also want to check out the track on Intel's 870 chipset: intel94.com

Tony,

J. Joseph's comments amount to nothing more than repeating gossip and rumors. There is a lot of opinion based on what others are saying and very little opinion based on gathered data or facts. For example:

"We have also heard the company has already decided to cut back on its capital spending"

"roadmaps (McKinley is said to be slipping)."

"There have been press reports of scheduled Intel price cuts"

And to a lesser extent, "February has remained a relatively slow month for many of the brokers we talk with"

Of course he must get information for his "analysis" from somewhere, but it is clear he is not doing a lot of "data" analysis, but rather rumor analysis. Hell, if I want a synopsis of all rumors, I can read the AMD Mod thread.

Lame.

<I don't care if J. Joseph has been right or wrong, >

JJ was the first analyst to call the end to the semi up-cycle at the time when INTC and others were hitting new all time highs almost daily.

I remember all the insults posted toward him on this thread. Most people on this thread are paying dearly for ignorance and will continue to do so.

Tony
you forgot to mention pII typo on this thread yet :-))
"At least in the gray market, the Athlon is far more popular than the PII/P4. It is unfortunate that just as AMD is hitting its stride in gaining the strongest competitive position it has ever enjoyed against Intel, the PC market is mired in its worst downturn in 15 years."
That should cost Intel some market share
