"The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska was $80,000. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, they were both
eaten by a killer whale. "

Back in like '94 President Clinton released a healed Bald Eagle for the cameras. The area was scenic but also home territory for a pair of Ospreys that knocked the Eagle out of the air and back to the rehab center.

Funny fact...

The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez oil
spill in Alaska was $80,000. At a special ceremony, two of the most
expensively saved animals were released back into the wild amid cheers and
applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, they were both
eaten by a killer whale.

This is a myth that has been circulating on the internet for a while.
