So then why are you currently integrating a P3 into your home network???

Because I received most of the components for free, and the entire system ended up costing me only about $400 (That's P3 1GHz, 256 Meg RAM, Matrox 450 16M, 75GB of hard drives, Sound Blaster Platinum, 17" 0.24dp monitor, HP P1000 printer, DVD, CD-RW).

If I'd had to go out and actually buy all of the components, I would have sprung for the P4 because it makes more economic sense in the long run...

TWY, <Has any follower of this thread actually bought a P4???>

I recommended a P4 to a friend who wants to build his own 3D graphics rendering workstation. Does that count?

Personally, I have a 600 MHz Coppermine, and I feel no need to upgrade until maybe Northwood. Besides, these days I prefer buying components that consume less power, emit less heat, and create less noise. Having a 55W processor (Pentium 4) or a 65W processor (Athlon) in my computer doesn't really appeal to me.

RE: "Has any follower of this thread actually bought a P4??? Somehow, I doubt it."

Guilty as accused. However, I have some good reasons: the stock market tanked. I guess it affected my 'consumer confidence level.' My second reason for not buying one right now, is the post that Ten had made about a month ago (he articulated some good reasons for waiting a few more months).

My current machine, Dell Dimension XPS 800 Mhz is too slow.
